An 8-year-old boy is fighting for his life after he was shot in the head as he slept in the back seat of his mother's car.

Kendrick Jackson, 26, and Lakia Bradley, 35, are charged with aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied vehicle. Richard Kyles, 8, was hit in the back of the head.

Jackson Police Department spokesman Cmdr. Tyree Jones said around 11 p.m. Saturday, JPD was called to Revere Street near Daniel Circle where Richard Kyles, 8, was shot in the back of the head.

He had been sleeping in the back seat of the vehicle driven by his mother, Deneka Frazier, Jones said, and he was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he is listed in "very serious critical condition."

Police said Lakia Bradley, 35, allegedly followed Frazier's vehicle while Frazier tried to lose her. When Frazier turned on  to Revere Street, police say the passenger in Bradley's Chevy Impala, later identified as Kendrick Jackson, 26, fired at least one shot into Frazier's car.

That's when police say Richard was struck.

A release from JPD says Jackson is Frazier's ex-boyfriend and allegedly had been threatening her recently.

Jackson was arrested following a traffic stop, and Bradley was later arrested at Club Elite on Terry Road. They were both arrested for aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
