Jackson Police Department spokesman Cmdr. Tyree Jones said Marcus Funchess, 28, allegedly knocked on a door at 601 Northpointe Parkway around 3:15 a.m. Thursday.

When a man came to answer the door, Funchess allegedly hit him in the head with a gun multiple times.

There were other people inside the apartment, and they jumped Funchess, Jones said. They were able to tie his hands behind his back and tie his feet and legs together, and they held him until police arrived.

Both Funchess and the victim were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.

Funchess faces charges of aggravated assault, attempted armed robbery, and possibly burglary of an occupied dwelling, Jones said.
