A veteran Jackson police officer who was riding his motorcycle in downtown Jackson was injured Saturday night when his motorcycle was hit by a car.

A veteran JPD officer was injured in an off-duty motorcycle wreck Saturday night.

The officer, who police said has been on the force since 1995, was off-duty and on his personal motorcycle when a gold sedan collided with the bike at the intersection of State Street and High Street. He was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he is receiving treatment.

On Monday morning, Jackson Police Department released via Twitter that his condition has been changed to critical. Early in the investigation, it was said he had substantial but non life-threatening injuries.

A man could be seen led from the scene of the wreck in handcuffs, but as of Sunday night, no charges had been pressed.

The name of the officer and the driver of the other vehicle have not yet been released.

This is a developing story.
