4th victim of Thursday night shooting dies

The fourth victim in a Thursday shootout that had already claimed three lives died Sunday.

Marquis Garrett, 25, died Sunday evening, according to the Jackson Police Department.

Carl Harper, 24, was a person of interest in the case and turned himself in to JPD headquarters Friday evening. He was questioned and released without being charged, officials said.

According to JPD, Garrett and his brother, Dominique Garrett, 23, were playing dominoes with an unidentified person inside an apartment at Westwood Apartments at 3150 Robinson Road Thursday.

At just after 10:20 p.m., at least three suspects gained entry to the apartment and demanded the people inside give up their belongings, according to JPD Cmdr. Tyree Jones. At least two of the suspects were armed when they entered the home.

The Garrett brothers were also armed and exchanged gunfire with the intruders. Dominique Garrett died on the scene of multiple gunshot wounds.

Jacarin Robinson, 21, one of the alleged intruders, also died on the scene after being shot in the head.

Another of the alleged suspects, Jessie Kelly, 23, sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to Merit Health via private vehicle by an unknown accomplice. He died around 4 a.m. Friday, Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart said.

Marquis Garrett is Jackson's 11th homicide for 2017.
