Jackson police are searching for a suspect known only as "Josh" in the city's latest homicide.

During a search of a Jackson home police allegedly fatally shoot pit bull.

Jackson Police Department has identified Mario Lampkin, 29, as the victim. He was shot in the head overnight at 1652 Forest Ave.

Commander Tyree Jones stated in a release that Lampkin was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he was pronounced dead early Monday. Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart was notified by the hospital's emergency room staff at 2:52 a.m., she said.

The suspect allegedly approached the victim in the apartment complex and fired one shot from a shotgun, then fled the scene. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and red shorts.

So far police do not have a motive for the shooting. This is the capital city's 7th homicide of 2017.
