JPD officers injured responding to first homicide of year

Jackson officers were injured in crash while responding to a fatal shooting Monday.

Jackson police are investigating the first homicide of of 2017.

Horatio Hunt Sr., 37, was shot to death on Center Street Monday evening. Horatio Hunt Jr., 19, suffer a gunshot wound to his ear. Hunt Sr. had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene. Hunt Jr. had been transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center by a private vehicle before officers arrived to the shooting scene. The teenager is in stable condition.

A black male suspect identified as Jamonta Jackson, aka “Out West Tay” and “Bae Bae” allegedly shot both victims during an apparent robbery. Jackson, 19, fled the scene after the shooting in what is described as a white vehicle.

Jackson is wanted for capital murder and aggravated assault.

In addition to the investigation, JPD officers were involved in two separate auto crashes while responding to the shooting. Three officers were injured.
