A Jackson woman has been charged with murder after she allegedly burned her elderly, disabled father with boiling water.

The death is JPD's 64th homicide investigation of 2016.

According to Commander Tyree Jones with the Jackson Police Department, on Sept. 3, Diane Coleman, 55, poured boiling water on her father, 81-year-old Earl Coleman, "severely burning" him in multiple places on his body.

Jones said the incident occurred that day and there were no signs of prior injuries.

Investigators believe her motive was due to her father's paralysis, including use of a wheelchair, and multiple medical issues. Diane Coleman was her father's primary caregiver and the two lived together, Jones said.

She originally was arrested and charged with domestic violence aggravated assault.

Earl Coleman was transported to Merit Health for his injuries and listed in critical condition. He died on Sept. 12.

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, investigators learned Earl Coleman's death was been ruled a homicide. Diane Coleman was then charged with murder. Her bond information was not immediately available.
