Jackson opens shelter due to expected cold temperatures
The city of Jackson is opening a shelter for those in need this weekend for the expected cold weather.
The Opportunity Center Shelter, located at 845 W. Amite St., will open Saturday night and any other night temperatures reach below freezing, the city announced Friday.

The city is working with Stewpot Community Services to open the shelter.
According to the National Weather Service, there will be a "noticeable change in the next 24 hours" as temperatures are expected to drop in the low 30s Saturday and Sunday night due to a brisk wind from the north.
Meteorologist Alan Campbell said the low temperature Friday night is an expected 44 degrees. The temperature will then dip by 12 degrees Saturday night and Sunday morning with a low of 32.
