JPD: Drunk driver crashes into police car, officer injured

A Jackson police officer was injured when his cruiser was struck by a driver who was allegedly under the influence.
Officer Eugene Alvarez was assisting a stranded motorist on Interstate 55 at Elton Road when an SUV slammed into the parked police car. Alvarez, who has been with JPD for two years, was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center and is in stable condition.
JPD said Shane Acy, the driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe, was intoxicated and also sustained minor injuries. Acy, 41, has been charged.
