Cowboy Maloney's Electric City on Interstate 55 in Jackson was burglarized sometime between late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, according to Jackson police, who said the suspects entered through

a large hole in the concrete wall in the rear of the building.

"It's an unusual occurrence and I understand quite a substantial amount of merchandise was taken," Jackson Police Chief Lee Vance said. "We're going to ask for the public to help us. This is a situation where I doubt they stole all that merchandise to use it themselves. They're probably going to try to resell it, so someone is going to know something about this."

Vance said the thieves appeared to have disabled the alarms, allowing them to make the hole in the wall while remaining undetected. Owner John Maloney told WLBT's Morgan Howard that they also disabled video systems and blew up the safe.

JPD said the thieves took cash, TV's and other electronics. Vance said it appears they loaded them into some kind of van or truck and were in the store about eight minutes after making entry.

"These folks need to be held accountable," Vance said. "That is a great Jackson business that has been there for years and certainly has been an asset to the community."

Vance said there was some video that was retrieved and police could release some of it as the investigation continues.

A few years ago, a gas station on Hanging Moss Road was also burglarized when the suspects made a hole in the back wall.

"It's happened before. I can't say it happens on a regular basis, but we've had other occurrences,"Vance said. "There are other factors that make the detection of culprits a lot more difficult, so it's kind of hard to compare case to case without knowing all the circumstances."
