Search continues for missing Jackson woman

Authorities say they are still hopeful as the search continues for a missing Jackson woman.

Tammyetta Spaulding

Tammyetta Spaulding, 37, went missing on Sept. 2, and in spite of social media campaigns and a full-scale investigation, no sign of her has been found.

But people need to remember that she's out there somewhere, officials said. JPD Commander Tyree Jones said police still are asking for the public's help in locating Spaulding.

"We don't have any evidence or signs to show if there's foul play, but we do believe it's an area of concern and we can't rule anything out," Jones said. "But the search is still very much ongoing."

"I’m sure that the anxiety for the family is tremendous. Of course, we are very concerned about the whereabouts of this person who has seemed to disappear,"  Jackson Police Chief Lee Vance said.

Spaulding is 5 feet 7 inches and 265 pounds. She was last seen with blonde hair, wearing a brown sweater dress and black glasses.

Officials say she spoke to a relative on Sept. 3, and was last seen taking her children to school on Sept. 2. She was not reported missing until Sept. 7.

Her blue Chevrolet Equinox with a paper tag was found abandoned in the area of Savannah Street near Interstate 55.

It's not clear if there has been any sign of activity on Spaulding's credit cards or cell phone.

Jones said police are particularly concerned because Spaulding's medication was left behind.

He said the residents of Jackson have been trying to help.

"The public is in support of trying to get people to give us information," Jones said. "We’ve gotten a few tips we’ve followed up on, but so far it hasn't given us any leads to her whereabouts."

Vance appealed to the people who he said must know more about where Spaulding is.

"Obviously this is one of the situations where we need help. Somebody knows what has happened to this woman, and someone may even know her whereabouts," he said. "The public needs to step forward to help find this lady and find her safe."

If you have knowledge of Spaulding's whereabouts, please call JPD at 601-960-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477).
