Deputy Coroner Kelda Bailess said Jerome Rankin, 22, was pronounced dead Sunday at 4:25 p.m. She was unable to discuss where he was shot or how many times, citing the investigation. His body has been sent to the crime lab for autopsy, she said.

Sheriff Martin Pace said it appears there were multiple shooters.

"We have detained several persons for questioning and expect formal charges to be filed as early as tomorrow," Pace said Sunday evening. "The investigation is continuing and far from over."

A crowd had gathered at the Kangaroo Express convenience store at Mississippi 27 and Mississippi 8 around 2:15 a.m., just after the bars closed.

"It's possible that whatever argument was taking place had actually begun at another location," Pace said.

The victims were all adult males between 20 and 27, and it's unclear what the three survivors' current statuses are. Pace said three of them were taken to River Region Medical Center by private vehicle. The fourth was still at the scene when authorities arrived and was taken to RRMC by ambulance. All four were transferred from there to the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Pace said investigators are reviewing several sources of security footage.

"We're following leads, and we have a team of investigators on it," Pace said. "Right now there are no exact known motives, but we do have some leads that could identify the shooters."

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Warren County Sheriff's Department at 601-636-1761 or CrimeStoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477).
