Commander Tyree Jones said the shooting took place around 6:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Bent Tree Drive.

Laramie Collins is in critical condition with shots to the chest and arm, and Kamesha Brown is stable with gunshot wounds in both legs, Jones said in a release.

Police said two armed suspects approached the victims and demanded money before shooting them.

Jones said Collins was able to discharge his weapon and hit at least one of the suspects, who then fled the scene in a silver vehicle.

Last week, Jackson had three fatal double shootings.

On Friday, JPD said Malik McIntee, 20, and Jaquez Ingram, 17, were shot near the 1300 block of Deerfield Lane in north Jackson. McIntee was taken to to the University of Mississippi Medical Center and is in stable condition. Ingram was pronounced dead at St. Dominic hospital from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Kori Evans, 27, was killed and another man was injured after two masked men with assault rifles shot them outside a residence on Pecan Boulevard Thursday evening.

Devell Bingham was charged with two counts of murder in the Tuesday morning shooting deaths of his mother Diana Patterson, 59, and his stepfather, Jackie Patterson, 66.
