Authorities have identified the construction worker who died after falling from the roof of the Vicksburg Convention Center as a Pelahatchie man who worked out of Jackson.

Warren County Deputy Coroner Ronald Regan confirmed James Michael Pace, 28, died Tuesday afternoon of injuries sustained in the fall.

Vicksburg Police Chief Walter Armstrong said the incident happened around lunch time and there were other roofers working with Pace.

Pace worked for Malone Construction Company. His Facebook page shows him as a father and husband who had been married under a year.

The 2006 Pearl High School graduate had posted in the hours before the fall about how hot the weather was.

Vicksburg Convention Center Executive Director Annette Kirklin told John Surrat with The Vicksburg Post that workers were fixing minor problems on the roof.

Vicksburg police Lt. Troy Kimble said investigators were told the man was working on flashing on the roof when he fell.
