Meridian child shot in the head in domestic dispute

The Meridian Police Department investigates a shooting Wednesday morning .

Meridian police are looking for a man involved in a domestic altercation that led to the shooting of a child in a carseat.

Capt. John Griffith said the toddler was in the car outside when she was hit in the head by a bullet while two men argued inside the home in the 4500 block of Third Street.

Neither of the men is the child's father. One of the men is her mother's boyfriend, he said.

Police have one man in custody for questioning, and are looking for the man who is believed to have fired the shot that hit the car, and subsequently hit the child in the head.

The shooting occurred around 11:40 a.m. Wednesday. Griffith said the investigation is ongoing.

The child was airlifted to Jackson. Her condition is unknown, and her identity has not been released.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
