Two men are in custody and one is charged with aggravated assault after a police pursuit in which two police units were damaged.

Brandon patrol car

Brandon Police Chief William Thompson said Jerry Donovan Green, of Fort Worth, was pulled over near the east Brandon exit around 1 a.m. Monday. He was allegedly wanted out of Arlington, Texas for burglary.

When Green pulled over, Thompson said, he got out of the car and danced around and then got back in and drove off. A man who had been in the car with him got out and remained behind with police.

Authorities began to pursue Green, though it was not at high speeds, Thompson said.

"It was almost an under the speed limit chase to the Pelahatchie exit on Highway 43," he said.

At that point, Green's vehicle collided with a Pelahatchie police cruiser. Green's car blew a tire and he continued on down Highway 43 with Rankin County, Brandon, and Pelahatchie in pursuit.

"He decided it was in his best interests to stop near Reagan Road," Thompson said.

Green was taken into custody there without incident.

A search of the vehicle turned up an estimated four grams of methamphetamine, a gram of heroin, and around $1,500 in cash. Thompson said police are waiting on a search warrant to check the rest of the car, as police believe there may be more money, drugs, and guns in the car.

Green has 39 arrests in Washington in the Seattle and Lynwood areas for property crimes, weapons charges, drug charges, fleeing, fraud, and auto theft, Thompson said.

John Martinez, of Houston, was the passenger. There have not been charges pressed on Martinez yet.

No one was injured in the pursuit, though a Pelahatchie police vehicle and a Brandon police vehicle were damaged.

"All Rankin County law enforcement were mutually supporting each other in this situation," Thompson said. "No one was injured, and we were able to see it to a safe and peaceful resolution."
