One man is dead and another wounded in what appears to be connected shootings that took place on Henley Street late Monday night.

Police work a wreck caused when a man was trying to take a homicide victim to the hospital.

Jackson Police Department Commander Tyree Jones said the victim was shot in the head as he sat inside a car on Henley Street. When the driver of the car, Jeremy Roberts, attempted to take him to the hospital, he was involved in a wreck at the intersection of Woodrow Wilson and Martin Luther King Street at 9:52 p.m.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart identified the victim as Brandon Terrell Washington.

The wreck also involved another vehicle and a Jackson Public Schools safety officer's car.

The other victim in that shooting, Allen Course, 29, was shot in the leg on the same street, and police received the call at 9:37 p.m. Course was transported to Central Mississippi Medical Center by personal vehicle.

Jones said the shootings stemmed from an argument between Course and Washington. Course was charged with convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

A home in the area was also damaged by gunfire, Jones said.

Roberts was charged with being in possession of a stolen vehicle. So far no charges have been pressed in Washington's or Course's shootings, but Jones said both are still under investigation.

The second incident took place as police wrapped up the scene at Woodrow Wilson and Martin Luther King Street. Details on that have not yet been released.
