Matt Devenney Emergency Shelter for Women and Children is located at 343 Adelle St., in Jackson.

A local couple who wishes to remain anonymous donated $100,000 to Stewpot Community Services.

The money is to be used specifically for the Matt Devenney emergency shelter in Jackson.

Because of the donation, the shelter will be able to stay open for another year, Executive Director Frank Spencer said.

"The Stewpot family is very thankful for this support and indeed the entire metro area should be grateful for insuring the continued operation of the city's only emergency shelter for women and children," Spencer said.

Matt's House and the Billy Brumfield emergency shelter for men faced closure this year after Stewpot lost about $170,000 in funding from federal grants and donations from United Way.
