Mullen: QB rotation to get Damian Williams prepared

Dan Mullen wants to get Damian Williams prepared in case he's needed this season, so he's rotating him into games early this season.

It took less than five minutes into Dan Mullen's radio show for the topic of the quarterback rotation to emerge on Thursday. Mississippi State's sixth year coach reiterated the reason for his decision in playing both quarterbacks.

"We're one snap from Damian Williams being the starting quarterback," Mullen said.

Mullen also addressed why he wants to bring Williams in during early portions of the game in the game.

The coach said he wants Williams to be fresh. He doesn't want the sophomore's reps to come after he's been standing on the sideline for three hours.

Williams has guided Mississippi State's offense in 10 drives this season. It's led to one touchdown. Williams is 7 for 14 this season for 78 yards and a touchdown.

If Prescott isn't able to play at any point this season, Mullen said Williams is the starter. Mullen also said at this point the team doesn't have a clear-cut third string quarterback. That's likely to be between freshmen Elijah Staley and Nick Fitzgerald.
