SI: Dak Prescott would consider leaving MSU early

Dak Prescott, who's on the cover of this week's Sports Illustrated, says he will consider entering the NFL Draft after this season.

Add NFL draft pick to potential titles surrounding Dak Prescott. The Mississippi State quarterback told Sports Illustrated he would consider leaving after his junior season.

"One of the worst things is not going, getting injured and hurting your situation," Prescott told SI. "I wouldn't risk it if I had a chance to go first round. I'm graduating college, and my time here will be done, I'll do exactly what I wanted to do."

Prescott is scheduled to graduate in December, so he could leave Starkville for the NFL with a degree.

Prescott is considered by many as the front-runner for the Heisman trophy. He's also leading the No. 1 team in the country. The quarterback has 23 touchdowns this season and has set the school record for touchdowns responsible.

"When the time came and there's an option, first, second or third round and I had the season I wanted to have, I'd go," Prescott said in the story.

MSU coach Dan Mullen prepares for anything, but isn't expecting to see his quarterback flee for the draft.

"I'd be shocked," Mullen said. "But you never know."

Prescott grew up a Tim Tebow fan. Many believe Prescott is ahead of Tebow's curve. The former Florida draft pick was selected in the first round by the Denver Broncos.

If the same opportunity presented itself for Prescott, he may have to follow suit.

"If they're saying first-round pick, of course my family could use (the money)," Prescott told SI. "It's a dream come true."
