Update: Jackson police arrest suspect, teen girl still missing

Dewayne Thompson is taken into custody by Jackson police.

Jackson Police Department spokeswoman Colendula Green confirmed that Dewayne Thompson wanted in the wounding and kidnapping of Katelyn Beard, 17, is in custody.

Thompson was arrested around 5:45 p.m. in west Jackson near where Beard's vehicle was found earlier today. Beard has not been found.

Green said an officer was on routine patrol around 9:40 a.m. when he found Beard's Nissan Altima abandoned behind the building on Dutchman Row.

Green said JPD has towed the vehicle in order to process it for evidence.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert on Sunday night about 9:30 p.m. for Beard.

Beard was taken from her home at 4244 Lynda St. between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m., according to a news release from MHP.

JPD responded to a report of a shooting at that address. Evidence that some one had been wounded was found at the scene.

She is described as a white female with long brown hair, brown eyes, 5-foot-4 and 140 pounds.

Beard's Nissan Altima is found
