Starkville surgeon's newborn daughter dies

The newborn daughter of a beloved Starkville physician died Wednesday, one week after her mother died during childbirth.

A beloved Starkville surgeon, Dr. Nikkie Shoemake died Wednesday during childbirth.

Aubrey Caroline Patterson had been transported to Batson Children's Hospital in Jackson shortly after her mother, Dr. Nikki Shoemake-Patterson, 40, died on June 1 at the OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.

Aubrey's name appeared in Patterson's obituary online later Wednesday night.

"Aubrey Caroline was surrounded by family as she peacefully passed into her mother’s arms in heaven on Wednesday, June 8, 2016," part of the notice read.
