OXFORD — The Laremy Tunsil saga could soon be coming to an end.

Laremy Tunsil, right, receives some encouragement from former Rebel Donte Moncrief (left) on the sidelines as the Ole Miss Rebels defeat New Mexico State.

Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze said Saturday afternoon that the Ole Miss administration told him that “we should expect an answer hopefully next week sometime” regarding Tunsil’s eligibility. Tunsil has sat out the team’s first six games due to an NCAA investigation.

SEC Network’s Laura Rutledge first reported the news Saturday morning.

The Ole Miss official football account tweeted the following Saturday morning: “To clarify what was reported by SEC Network, we do not have an answer from NCAA on Tunsil but are hopeful to have more information next week.”

Freeze said last Monday that he hoped for an update on the star left tackle sometime last week.

“From what I know, which is limited, I would think that he’s going to be back with us at some time,” Freeze said. “He’s antsy, just hopeful for a finality to it, as are we. I’m just hopeful that it can be resolved this week quickly and get him back with us.”

Tunsil, who has continued working with the Rebels’ strength staff despite his not playing, took second-team snaps at left tackle last Tuesday during the portion of practice open to the media. He previously hadn’t been lining up as an offensive lineman in those open periods.

Rebels quarterback Chad Kelly had been sacked nine times over the Rebels’ previous three games but wasn’t once in Saturday’s 52-3 home win against New Mexico State.

The Rebels were without right guard Justin Bell and center Robert Conyers, and left guard Javon Patterson didn’t start but did enter the game against the Aggies.
