A Hinds County jailer has been fired and arrested after being accused by an inmate of rape.

Hinds County Sheriff's Department spokesman Othor Cain said Stanley Martin, 57, of Yazoo City, was booked into the Hinds County jail after being charged with sexual battery.

Cain said there is pending litigation in the case, so there are not a lot of details that can be released.

"The investigation is ongoing, and there are a lot of accusations and a lot of claims. We're trying to get to the bottom of it," Cain said. "Martin was interviewed the day that this incident happened, and internal affairs went through their normal course of procedure."

The inmate, whose name is not being released because The Clarion-Ledger does not divulge the names of alleged sexual assault victims, was not injured and was not hospitalized.

When asked if she gave consent at any point, Cain said, "That's a part of the investigation."

Cain could also not discuss whether there was actually any physical contact between the inmate and the jailer.

"It just has to work its way through the courts," Cain said.
